Last Sunday was water testing and Mike Spangler and I were on the lake to do that. Silversands casino zar. We observed a boat with three people fishing on our way out. They were in the process of catching and releasing a walleye. On our way back, we again observed them catching a walleye that appeared to be within the slot restriction. They did release it, but it was out of the water for an extended period of time before they returned it to the water. We want to remind people who catch walleyes within the slot restricted area (17-26 inches) that a quick return to the water is very important. It the fish has been caught with live bait on a single hook, cutting the line and releasing it is better than trying to dislodge the hook, especially if the hook is not very easily removed. The hook will disolve and the fish will not be as seriously harmed. It will be there for the future enjoyment of the sportspeople who fish Lida. (May 11, 2019 – April 14, 2020) The Walleye/Sauger aggregate limit is six (no more than four can be Walleye). Walleye from 19.5 through 28 inches must be immediately released. Only one Walleye over 28 inches total length may be possessed. Mille Lacs Lake including all tributaries from the mouth upstream to posted boundaries. Walleye: From Dec. 1, 2020, through Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, one walleye between 21-23 inches or one fish longer than 28 inches. All other walleye must be immediately released.
